Bet of the Day 18th January 2011

Hi guys. I've been busy again and since I'm new to this blogging stuff I've missed some days.

Anyway, I'm back and today's Bet of the Day is on Hearts (Scotland) who I predict will beat Kilmarnock 0-2. They are on amazing form and have a great team setup.

Dirks Betfair Football Bet of the Day - 15 January 2011

Hi all. Sorry I didn't managed to get online to give a recommendation yesterday + my previous bet lost :(
As you know, I like to back outsiders in footy and today is no exception......
Todays recommendations is BLACKPOOL TO WIN away to west brom.  I would also have an nip on 3-0 and 3-1 to Blackpool at some tasty odds on Betfair.

BET OF THE DAY 15th JAN 2011:

BLACKPOOL TO WIN @ 4.5 betfair.

Should Hodgson have been given more time?

LIVERPOOL plunged to a 57-year low on Wednesday night, the 1-0 defeat by Wolves meaning the Reds will go into a New Year on their lowest points tally since 1953/54, when Don Welsh’s side was relegated.
But other stats from Roy Hodgson’s reign so far make equally grim reading. Hodgson has still never beaten Wolves as a Premier League manager while Wednesday’s visitors - bottom of the league before kick-off -Šhad not won at Anfield since 1984.
The Reds have already lost to two of the promoted clubs this term - Newcastle away, Blackpool at home - and now find themselves just three points off the relegation zone and five points from the foot of the table.
The Blackpool defeat in October put Liverpool into the bottom three and -Šin the first statistical nod to the 1953/54 season - meant the Reds had got off to their worst league start for 57 years.
And Kopites will remember Liverpool’s Carling Cup clash against League Two outfit Northampton back in September for all the wrong reasons, with Hodgson’s side crashing out on penalties in what many considered to be the most embarrassing home performance since Worcester City in 1959.
While the Wolves defeat also came at Anfield, Hodgson’s away record with Liverpool so far is perhaps more of a cause for concern.
The Reds have been beaten six times and have managed only one win on the road in the league this season, scoring just six goals.
Hodgson has never won more than five away games in charge of a Premier League team in a single season; Rafael Benitez won only five away games in 2009/10 and it was not deemed good enough to keep him at LFC.
Benitez won 13 away games with the Reds in the 2008/09 campaign - the same amount Hodgson has won in his Premier League managerial career to date.
Roy Hodgson’s Premier League away record in full:1997/98 Blackburn Rovers - 5 away wins – finished 6th1998/99 Blackburn Rovers – 0 away wins – sacked when 20th2007/08 Fulham – 3 away wins – finished 17th2008/09 Fulham – 3 away wins – finished 7th2009/10 Fulham – 1 away win – finished 12th2010/11 Liverpool – 1 away win so farŠ– currently 12th
How Hodgson compares overall to past LFC managers:
Roy Hodgson - 29 matches, Won 12 Drawn 8 Lost 9 -41.38% win percentage.
Rafael Benitez - 350 matches, W 194 D 77 L 79 - 55.43% win
Gerard Houllier - 325 matches, W 165 D 81 L 79 - 50.77% win
Roy Evans - 244 matches, W 123 D 63 L 58 - 50.41% win
Graeme Souness - 157 matches, W 65 D 47 L 45 - 41.40% win
Kenny Dalglish - 307 matches, W 187 D 78 L 42 - 60.91% win
Joe Fagan - 131 matches, W 70 D 37 L 24 - 53.44% win
Bob Paisley - 535 matches, W 307 D 132 L 96 - 57.38% win
Bill Shankly - 783 matches, W 407 DŠ198 L 178 - 51.98% win

With all of that in mind, I think that he should have been given until the end of the season. He took over the team during their worst ever start to a Premier League campaign. He lost only 9 games in charge of Liverpool. When compared to Souness, I don't think the record is that bad.....

Whats your opinion?

Dirks Mauser's Betfair Football Bet of the Day for 13 January 2011

1 out of 1 so far! Not bad. It was a shocker to some people but I predicted Blackpool would beat Liverpool and was justly rewarded. Shame it did not finish 3-1 as I had a small investment on the final score.

Unfortunately there is not a lot of action on 13th January 2011. No league matches on and I never ever recommend betting big on cup matches!

The only bet really worth a second look is DEPORTIVO LA CORUNA. They are 3.70 to beat Almeria. Both teams are fairly poor and unpredictable this season but I think Deportivo have the edge, even away from home. At those odds it is worthy of a very small punt.

13 January 2011
Almeria v DEPORTIVO LA CORUNA: Bet Deportivo WIN @ 3.70 Betfair

Dirks Football Bet of the Day, an introduction...

I have been betting on sport for a long time and make a good living without ever having to leave my home. It didn't start out that way though. In my first three years of gambling on Betfair I made a total loss of over £6,000 whilst have a monthly wage of less than £1,000!! Luckily I soon figured it out - The ONLY mistake I was making was chasing losses. In fact changing the amount you stake in general is a bad move without a great deal of consideration, you have to remember that these huge numbers are real money and can buy real items etc.

I came to realise that essentially only two of my many 'systems' turned a consistent and sizeable profit. All bets I place are on Football (or Soccer as you may know it). The first 'system' involves finding a team which you believe has a chance of winning but has been priced as outsider (usually Away team, odds above 3.5 on the Betfair Match Odds market) and betting on 3-0; 3-1; 3-2 for small, level stakes. This system has not yet gone into deficit in the 5+ years I have been utilising it on a daily basis.

The second 'system' simply involves large bets on teams which are excellent 'value'. The skill of selecting such teams can only come with years of experience and watching the game. As I stated above, I have been making a good living from Betfair without ever risking more than £100-£500 on a single bet, I started with less than £50 to my name. I want to share with you my selections via this blog.

If you are taking the time to read this I thank you and ask that you judge me on my results in the coming weeks. I will post here every day, even if it is merely to say that I recommend no bets today.
